Words with... Dina Nayeri In-Person
Born during the Iranian revolution, Dina Nayeri was eight years old when she fled the country and lived as a refugee before being granted asylum in the United States two years later. She is a prize-winning author of fiction and non-fiction, whose previous two novels have been translated into 14 languages and published in 20 countries.
University of Essex Library and the Lakeside Theatre have invited her to talk about her past work and her new book The Ungrateful Refugee, sharing a title with her acclaimed Guardian Long Read published in 2017. This is her first work of narrative non-fiction, whereby she tells her own story alongside those of other asylum seekers in recent years, exploring real stories of what it is to be made to leave your home and cross borders hoping for a fresh start.
