Time to Write

Feeling isolated and struggling to write? Join our popular virtual writing retreat 'Time to Write,' where you’ll get some great advice and time structure, alongside the opportunity to be part of a supportive community with some of your fellow PhD researchers! Time to Write days include 3 short meetings over Zoom to give structure and accountability to your independent writing day.

***By signing up to this session, you’ll pay a one-off fee for access to a range of writing days in the Autumn term where you pick and choose which sessions you will join.***

This award winning programme is a light touch version of the popular Thesis Boot Camp, which was designed by Dr Peta Freestone to help PhD students with their writing. We know that in these uncertain times it can be difficult to keep on top of your writing, and you may feel like you’re not making progress. This programme has been designed to help you write, but please note that this is NOT a boot camp. We do not need to see intense levels of productivity, but we’re hoping that we can create some positive days where we come together, though we are working separately, in virtual spaces where we can catch up and share advice and tips. Have a look at our blog post for more information about previous sessions.

Each Time to Write day combines independent writing time with three Zoom catch-ups. The programme includes an introductory session, which will be on 20 October, with follow up writing day sessions. You can choose which of these you'd like to join. This term the dates will be:

  • Wednesday 20th October - Introductory Day (all new members of Time to Write must attend this day)
  • Monday, 25th October - Writing Day
  • Friday, 5th November - Writing Day
  • Thursday, 11th November - Writing Day
  • Wednesday, 17th November - Writing Day
  • Tuesday, 23rd November - Writing Day
  • Monday, 29th November - Writing Day
  • Wednesday, 8th December - Writing Day
  • Thursday, 16th December - Writing Day

A full overview of the structure of the upcoming sessions will be made available to you once you book a place, so sign up now! You can join as many or as few Writing Days as you’d like, but we recommend joining at least three sessions (including the introduction). Once you sign up, we will send you a quick form to fill out to indicate sessions you want to join.

Book your place now!

If you have any questions, please get in touch with Hannah Pyman or Anne Kavanagh.
