Blogging and how it can help promote your research - Research Visibility Focus Week Online

Blogging can be a great way to engage fellow researchers, the public and policymakers with your research. The University has a partnership with the news website The Conversation and has its own blogging platform. So how do you get started? What makes a great blog? How do pitch your ideas? How do you promote it once you’ve written it?

Communicating your research effectively can increase engagement and awareness of your research and can help increase its impact. Blogging is a way for you to update fellow researchers and the public about progress on your research, your latest findings or encourage wider debate. Coupled with an effective social media strategy it can build your professional networks and widen engagement with your work.

Ben Hall joined the University in 2010 after working as a journalist and editor for over 10 years. He is Head of Corporate Communications and has written blogs, pitched countless ideas to The Conversation and worked with researchers on developing their blogs. He wrote ‘A blog about writing a blog’ and ‘How to kickstart your blog’.
