Best practices in peer review In-Person

Mastering peer review: best practices revealed!

Have you heard the term "peer review" but not sure what it involves?
Do you have some understanding of peer reviewing but want to develop your skills?
Do you want to gain valuable experience in this skill to help you stand out in your future career?
Do you want to meet other PGRs but not know how to get the conversation started?

If so, come along to the Library's "Best Practices in Peer Reviewing" to develop your skills and meet your peers!

About

Join fellow PGRs and staff to learn about the best practices in peer review. Peer review is a great way to hone your feedback and writing skills, and gain experience to help you stand out in your future career.

We'll start with an overview of what peer review is and what it involves, before sharing some top tips from the personal experiences of staff here at Essex.

We'll also share information about the Essex Student Journal - a way to gain hands-on peer review experience with training and a supportive environment.

There will then be a chance to discuss peer review in groups and have a go at some practical examples. Whether you have previous experience of peer review or are completely new, this is a great opportunity to refine your skills, build your confidence, and meet other PGRs without the awkwardness of not knowing what to talk about.

Finally, we'll have some refreshments and time for you to continue the conversations after the training. We encourage you to stay in touch with each other afterwards and let us know if you want another opportunity like this in the future!

What you'll get out of the session

  • Insight into a vital skill that will help you stand out in your future careers
  • Increased confidence in your peer reviewing skills and how they can improve your writing skills
  • Information on how to gain practical peer review experience with the Essex Student Journal
  • The opportunity to meet other like-minded PGRs and start a community with your peers
  • Biscuits!
