Researchers obtaining data from people are expected to maintain high ethical standards and comply with the relevant legislation specifically when it comes to data sharing for future use. Much research data, even sensitive data can be shared ethically and legally.

This session will focus on ethical and legal considerations in data sharing. For example, duty of confidentiality and relevant data protection legislations such as EU & the UK GDPR. Participants will also learn about strategies that enable them to share research data.

This includes carrying out an assessment of disclosure risk, obtaining informed consent, anonymising data and regulating access to enable data to be shared.
