Check out what the UK Data Service has to offer Online
The UK Data Service holds the UK's largest collection of research data (9,732 datasets including several hundreds of secure access data) as well as offers a vast array of resources.
This training session is aimed at early-career researchers and will provide an overview of the different data types and materials we supply for you to use for your own research or your teaching (Data skills modules, Teach with real data, Research data management, Software and tools, Computational social science, Deposit data, Training and Events).
Participants will learn how to find and access those data collections, how some of our data collections can be viewed and analysed online, and which support and training resources are available for students, researchers and teachers. Further, we will cover specifics regarding our secure access data, which are available via our TRE ‘UKDS SecureLab’, the 5 Safes Framework, and access to international controlled microdata via our involvement in the International Data Access Network (IDAN).
By the end of this training session the participants will:
- Have an understanding of the rich data sources available via the UK Data Service,
- Know how to search for and find data,
- Have an understanding of the different data access levels, and the application procedure,
- Have an understanding of secure data environments and how they work, as well as the process for applying to access sensitive data sources,
- Be familiar with the 5 Safes Framework,
- Have an overview of which controlled international data are available to them via the UKDS,
- Have an idea of the different types of training sessions we offer,
- Know how to contact us for expert advice and keep in touch with new developments.
