Special Collections: Halloween open afternoon

Special Collections: Halloween open afternoon In-Person

This Halloween, join us to explore books and documents from our archives and special collections on the themes of magic and the occult. There will be fascinating books on display, from the Malleus Maleficarum, the “Hammer of Witches,” published in 1576, to an encylopaedia of the occult from 1925. Read King James I criticism of witches in Daemonologie, in an edition from 1616, and see notes from séances attended by the crime writer Margery Allingham in the early 20th century. Find out how a magician exposed fraudulent mediums in 1930s America, why members of the National Viewers and Listeners Association objected to Robin of Sherwood, and much more besides. You don't need to book in advance, just come to the Special Collections reading room on floor one of the Albert Sloman Library. We look forward to welcoming you.
